Project: pool on a hill, in Kaneohe Oʻahu

One of the pleasures of creating your own custom swimming pool is the ability to choose specific water depths. In this case, the main pool has a side that’s deep enough for really digging in when swimming laps at speed and another side that’s good for lazy splashing and socializing.

But depth is just one way of customizing a pool. Shape is another obvious way: from a traditional rectangular swimming pool to a kidney shape or completely freeform. Then, perhaps, add a rocky waterfall, grotto, even a stone outcropping to create a fully immersive island-style pool environment… tiki bar optional. Or pare it all the way back to precise geometry, sleek clean edges, and spare surfaces for a modern, minimalist retreat — with or without, the jetted lounging area.
